The bridesmaid tradition was actually started way back in ancient days. Bridesmaid’s original role was to dress in identical bridesmaid dresses and identical to the bride’s wedding dress. This was to protect the bride from the evil spirits or would be suitors by confusing them on who was actually the bride.
The tradition of having bridesmaids is still around today. The only difference is that the bridesmaids dresses, even though they are still identical in most cases, are different from the bride’s wedding gown.
Theme weddings are getting more popular. If you have ever seen the movie “27 Dresses, Katherine Heigl plays the part of a woman who has been a bridesmaid 27 times and she had a bridesmaid dress for the theme of each wedding. Themes can be fun and tend to express the true you.
A lot of weddings are centered around a theme of whatever season the wedding is in. Springtime weddings can be themed with pastel colors and lots of spring flowers. Summertime wedding ceremonies are great outdoors, unless it is in a rainy season or very hot. There are endless theme possibilities for a summer wedding. Of course Autumn weddings, being my favorite season, can be the most impressive of all season themes. You have an array of deep colors to choose for your bridesmaid dresses as well as your own wedding dress. And last, but certainly not least, that very popular winter wedding has an endless number of themes for that all important event….YOUR WEDDING.
You might want to choose the theme for your wedding and then choose your date accordingly.
A Matron of Honor is just that. It is such an honor to be asked to serve in that position. Your role is very important to the Bride for help in all the endless planning and decisions to be made throughout the whole wedding experience. As a Matron of Honor, you have one of the most important roles in making sure the bride and groom’s wedding is a success.
A Matron of Honor will need to be willing to assist the bride in whatever she needs. You may be asked to help with choosing her wedding dress as well as the bridesmaid’s dresses and the flower girl’s dress. Keep in mind however, that the bride has the final choice. Be willing to freely give your time and effort. The chores could be endless.
A dedicated Matron of Honor is a “true friend indeed” to the bride. She can always count on a true friend.
Even if that big day is nine to twelve months away, you should start planning as soon as possible. It will save a lot of griefs later on.
Start out by starting a file. I like the accordion file because you can get a lot of records in them. Get a journal, one with a section for names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses, because you will want to save all contacts information. Write down everything. Even the most minute detail that you may need later.
Get ideas by wedding books, internet, and any other sources that assist you in your selections.
Don’t get over excited if you change your mind often. It’s expected. The main thing, by starting early, you have given yourself time to change ideas.
Your wedding dress should be ordered as early as possible. Whether it be custom made or just need alterations, this could take a while to get it perfected. The same goes for your bridesmaid dresses. You may still need a last fitting just before the wedding.
If you have everything scheduled and taken care, you can relax and enjoy your own wedding.
Don’t let the economy threat thwart your plans for a memorable wedding day. There are so many ways you can cut costs and still have a spectacular wedding. After all, who is the wedding for, you or your friends and family. They will be just as happy for you, if you had spent thousands of dollars. Thousands of dollars is hard to recoup for couples starting out today.
First, you might consider an outside wedding in a park, or your lawn if you have one. Air is free. Your wedding dress, if chosen carefully can be purchased for under $200.00 online. If you have a very best friend, ask her to be your bridesmaid, that way you only have one bridesmaid dress to buy. If the wedding is on your lawn, plant flowers in cheap plastic pots covered in colored foil paper. Make sure the flowers are the kind that will be in bloom on the wedding date. For the reception, have an old fashioned pot luck dinner on the grounds. This will also make your guests feel that they are part of the wedding.
You may ask yourself, where do I begin when trying to choose your bridesmaid dresses. You know what you like, but would each of the bridesmaids like or flatter whatever you would choose. You may have different size bridesmaids. Even though the dress you chose is a glamorous dress, it would not have the same gorgeous dress effect on each one. A girl that would wear a plus size bridesmaid dress would not like the dress a twiggy girl would wear.
Who says the bridesmaids dresses have to all be the same style and design, or even the same color for that matter. If all are dressed in identical bridesmaid dresses, when you see one of them in the wedding party, you might say you’ve seen them all. However, if all the bridesmaid gowns are different, the guest will be able to enjoy all the different looks. May prove to start a new trend in wedding attire.
Although the engagement ring attracts more attention than any other single piece of wedding-related jewelry, it’s not the only accessory befitting of a bride. On the contrary, women should put plenty of time and consideration into the jewelry they will wear on the biggest day of their lives. People will be looking back on the event in photos for years to come, so it’s important to make a great impression that will be captured for posterity.
Brides wear white dresses to stand out from the other women at the ceremony, of course, but they can still demonstrate some creativity through their jewelry. The jewelry might be selected to match with the bridesmaid dresses or as a complement to some other prominent accessory.
Depending on the age of the Flower Girl will determine the style of the Flower Girl Dress you choose. You don’t want a young child dressed in a dress that will make her seem like one of the bridesmaids or the bride. The dress should be sweet and frilly, becoming to any little girl. It can be a long dress, a short dress, or a tea length dress. A style totally different from the bridesmaids dresses will actually give more finesse to the wedding than all of the same style and/or color will do.
An older Flower Girl, such as a preteen or early teen, will need something a little more grown-up looking. Something with T-Straps and a long full bodied skirt that compliments the style and/or color of the bridesmaids dresses.
A Flower Girl Dress should not look like a bridal gown.
You still need to remember that pre teens and early teens are still little girls and need to be dressed as such.
With your best friend’s wedding only a few weeks away, you realize that you have accumulated a few extra pounds over the last few months and that form fitting bridesmaid dress you will be wearing is a little snug.
Now is the time to act. By crash dieting you not only injure your health, but usually the weight comes back as soon as you quit dieting. Eating healthy and exercise is the best way to lose those unwanted pounds. Walking is one of the best exercises you can do. Yoga is great too. You don’t have to join a gym or exercise group to do yoga. There are DVD tapes available that you can do at home. However, I find that if you have someone to exercise with, it is much more pleasureable. Core training exercises are good to use also. I also reccomend the exercise ball. It is great for stretching those taut muscles.
A few short weeks and that form fitting bridesmaid dress will fit perfect.
