The bridesmaid tradition was actually started way back in ancient days. Bridesmaid’s original role was to dress in identical bridesmaid dresses and identical to the bride’s wedding dress. This was to protect the bride from the evil spirits or would be suitors by confusing them on who was actually the bride.
The tradition of having bridesmaids is still around today. The only difference is that the bridesmaids dresses, even though they are still identical in most cases, are different from the bride’s wedding gown.
How do you know if an event is formal or informal attire unless the invitation specifies? Sometimes you have to use your own intuition as to what to wear. Most of the time, unless the invitation specifically calls for formal wear, you can get by with informal. If you have a borderline doubt, you would be safe in choosing for your evening dress, a short skirted dress pegged as “the little black dress”.
