The bridesmaid tradition was actually started way back in ancient days.  Bridesmaid’s original role was to dress in identical bridesmaid dresses and identical  to the bride’s wedding dress.  This was to protect the bride from the evil spirits or would be suitors by confusing them on who was actually the bride.

The tradition of having bridesmaids is still around today.  The only difference is that the bridesmaids dresses, even though they are still identical in most cases, are different from the bride’s wedding gown.

The origin of the white wedding dress is thought to have started with Anne of Brittany for her wedding with Louis VII of France.  Up until then, women wore their Sunday Best for their wedding gown.  They often wore red or yellow.  During biblical times, a blue wedding dress was the most often chosen color.  This color was thought to symbolize purity.

During early Roman times, white symbolized joy and celebration.  In the last century, the white dress symbolized purity, and today it symbolizes happiness.

Thus we have the White Wedding Dress.

Just as important as the style you choose for your wedding dress, is the fabric you choose.  If you choose the right style for you and then choose the wrong fabric you have lost the effectiveness of beauty and glamor in the dress.

For a wedding gown that needs to be soft and drape becomeingly around your shape you might want to consider  a chameuse or maybe a chiffon.  Chameuse is normally made from either silk or polyester, while chiffon can be made from either silk, polyester, or rayon.  Georgette, another great fabric, is a bit heavier.

For a wedding dress with an overskirt that needs to have body and stand out, organza is the ideal choice.  It has just enough body to do this.

Let’s not forget the gorgeous satin that can be made into a multitude of  styles.  To me, there is nothing more beautiful than a bride in her white satin wedding dress.

As I was flipping through the T V channels the other night, I happened upon a program about weddings.  I was enthralled with the beauty of the bridal gowns and all of the luxury that was poured into these weddings.  These weddings had to have cost a small fortune.

There was only one small problem.  At the end of the program, a statement was made concerning the fate of these  gorgeous dresses after the wedding.  The new fad is “Trash Your Wedding Gown”.  This blew my mind.

Brides, please don’t trash your wedding dress after the ceremony is over.  No matter what the cost of the wedding dress was, cheap or extravagant, There are those out there that would love a beautiful wedding gown to get married in but cannot afford whatever the cost.

A wedding dress is expected to meet great expectations.  All eyes will be focused on the wedding gown as the bride makes her way down the aisle in this once in a lifetime event.

The wedding dress should be elegant for the onlookers, yet still giving a look of mystique and romance for the husband to be.

For this reason, a wedding gown should have a unique look for that first impression as the bride starts her stroll down the aisle.
